Experience Bariloche facing its lakes
San Carlos de Bariloche, located in northern Argentine Patagonia at the foot of the Andes Mountains, very close to Chile, is the capital of Argentina’s Lakes and Volcanoes Region. Bariloche is full of attractions, but above all, it lies at the heart of a fantastic region – a vast playground for all nature lovers.
The city is located in the heart of a national park, Nahuel Huapi National Park, which covers an area of about 7,000 km² and is dotted with numerous lakes, the largest of which is Lake Nahuel Huapi, well known for its crystal-clear waters.
What’s more, what I like most about this region is that the landscapes are so varied – you can go from arid steppes to forests with ancient trees in just about 60 kilometers.

Activities to discover magnificent nature
During the summer, when the days are long and the weather is perfect, you can go horseback riding (there are many estancias in the surrounding area), fishing (in rivers or lakes), hiking, playing golf, and enjoying water sports, as well as sampling the many local specialties, such as craft beer, chocolate, gourmet delicacies, and more.
In winter, snow-capped mountains and winter activities such as skiing – mainly at Cerro Catedral – and snowshoeing await us. It’s possible to visit both the Perito Moreno ski resort and Cerro Bayo in a single day.
There are countless options, and breathtaking views await you from the top of the ski lifts. Don’t miss out! Bariloche offers a wide variety of accommodations and restaurants to suit every taste and budget.
For those who wish to extend their stay, Bariloche is an excellent starting point for heading south along Route 40, or north to explore volcanoes and other national parks along the Seven Lakes Route, or even crossing the Andes Mountains to visit Chile.
That’s why we recommend renting a car; depending on your needs and the level of comfort you’re looking for, there’s a wide variety of options, so we can help you choose and book your rental car.
That’s quite a program!
